This Is Parallels 010 with Forerunners
This Is Parallels 010 is an episode for lovers of melodic, atmospheric progressive house with none other than Brenden Labonte, better known to the music world as Forerunners. With stunning releases on labels like Pure Progressive and Silk Music, Forerunners has secured his place as one of the most impressive producers of the moment. Very much like his music, his guest mix is a true journey that ebbs and flows effortlessly leaving listeners hypnotized.

Parallels: Thank you for joining us, Brenden! We’re huge fans of your work so we have to ask, what’s new in the world of Forerunners?
Forerunners: First off thank you for the opportunity to contribute to the Parallels Podcast! To answer the question, after a little end of the year break I’m getting back into the swing of things and I think you’ll find some very new Forerunners material in my mix. I’m continuing to focus on writing music I want to hear and share, and will hopefully continue to bridge the gap between genres in 2018.
Parallels: Which has been your favorite venue to play so far, and why?
Forerunners: Definitely the boat party with Solarstone in NYC last year! I become pretty focused on my music when I’m playing live, but there were points I glanced up to take in the amazing sights while playing some of my favorite music to a great group of people and it created a memory I will never forget!
Parallels: If you could change one (or more things) in the music industry, what would it be?
Forerunners: I would love to find a way to get more people engaged in music. We’re all so wrapped up in our day to day lives, social media, arguing over news…music becomes background noise to everything else that is going on, and that is understandable. But I think when people stop and connect with a song, or a mix, or an event, they become grounded instantly in what is real and worthwhile again. They can feel it internally. We need more of that to happen, I think it influences other parts of our lives positively such as our mental health and relationships.
Parallels: What has been an event that has defined (or re-defined) your personal direction in music?
Forerunners: I stepped away from music production in 2011 and didn’t return except for a couple remixes in 2013…no originals for about 4 years! I credit the love of my life, my wife, in pushing me to return to writing music again. I completely reinvented my approach and the result was the 2015 Saturate Audio EP “Fading Signs” that redefined my sound and served to sort of announce what Forerunners was going to sound like going forward. The EP became a #1 trance release on Beatport! It’s been onwards and upwards since that point.
Parallels: What can we look forward to seeing in the near future from you?
Forerunners: After a hectic release schedule at the end of 2017 I took about a month off and spent time on other things in life, but January 1st 2018 was like opening the floodgates! There’s plenty of new originals in the works as well as some very cool remixes for artists I highly respect. Keep an eye out on my Facebook for gig announcements, excited to be visiting some new places to meet fans and make new friends.
